Christian moviemaker Alex Kendrick wishes he got some advice at the beginning of his career, so now he’s sharing on Instagram what he would’ve like to know with those just getting started.
“Don’t make it about yourself,” he said as his first pointer, noting in the caption that these tips can apply to anyone in any field. “People are drawn to humbleness and kindness. But arrogance is an irritation to most people.”
His second piece of advice? “People are more important than fame and awards. Don’t step on others to reach your goals. Value everyone you can on your journey.”
In the next Instagram slide, he said, “Pace yourself. Stress and exhaustion can turn you out much sooner if you don’t stop to rets and ‘breath’ when needed.”
He also emphasized that it’s okay to fail: “Failure may come in season but remember it doesn’t define you. It’s a season. Get back up and keep walking, applying what you’ve learned!”

Finally, “Include God in your life and your work. He sees you and loves you and wants to walk with you. He also knows you better than you know yourself!” Kendrick concluded.
Fans in the comment section appreciated the advice.
“Thank you for the Christ-centered content that you always produce. Keep doing what you’re doing,” one person said. Another added, “As a follower of Jesus and walking in my new journey of acting, thank you for this reminder.”
Kendrick frequently encourages his fans to live out their faith.
In another recent post to Instagram, he said, “You must choose to live by encouragement rather than by expectations.”
“Love a lot of times is about letting go of the expectations you are holding onto and instead encouraging those around you,” he added in the caption.
Inspiring others certainly isn’t anything new for Kendrick. He and his brother Stephen Kendrick have poured their lives into bringing hope-filled movies to audiences for decades.
While serving at a church in the early 2000s, “[Alex] shared his dream of making full-length Christian movies one day. In 2002, Alex approached senior pastor, Michael Catt, with an idea to make a low-budget, full-length movie as an outreach to the community,” the brothers’ website says. “The pastor agreed, provided that Alex fulfill his normal responsibilities and that the money be ‘prayed in’ since the church budget could not spare the estimated $20,000 to produce the movie.”
Their first movie, FLYWHEEL, debuted in 2003.
Since then, the Kendrick brothers created many other movies, including FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, WAR ROOM and THE FORGE. Their story is a testimony to what God can do if you follow your dreams and honor Him along the way.
