Christian Artist Says Let Holy Spirit Lead Worship, Not Technology

Worship leader Darlene Zschech is reminding us to “let technology serve you” when it comes to implementing it in worship.

“I think it’s good for you to just get off [of social media], give yourself a little cleanse, and just remember who you are because we can easily start comparing ourselves with what we see,” she said in a video for Worship Leader Magazine.

Zschech also spoke about the pitfalls that can come from being too dependent on technology, especially when it comes to worship.

“I love technology,” she said. “But when I see that kind of, even in worship, leading the way…I like to sit and remember the creator of everything is still the one who gives us…creative ability and ideas. And technology, as amazing as it is, when you become dependent on it, [it] will become a lid to everything that’s in your heart.”

She continued, “Let technology serve you. You’ve got to find a way for that thing to serve you, where you feel like the Holy Spirit is leading you to lead the congregation.”

Zschech recently released a new album, “Testament,” that sees her reimagine several of her most well-known songs, as well as some brand new tracks.

“I’ll always find it hard to wrap my head around the miracle of worship, music, and song,” she said in an interview with CCM Magazine. “There’s really no other vehicle available to us on earth that has the ability to bring to attention our mind, auditory senses, resting our hearts, moving the soul and spirit to a point when your whole self is pointed in the one direction. Such is the power of worship as the Holy Spirit leads our heart heavenward, Jesus-ward, through the magnificent sound of sacred song.”

In an Instagram post celebrating the album’s release, Zschech wrote, “These are 30 songs that declare the faithfulness of God, songs that are first and foremost for the worship of God. This project has the fingerprints of many many people on it…and I could not have achieved this without any of them. THANKYOU to everyone Involved.. for the glory of God.”
