Danica McKellar Talks Similarities with Her Chacter from This Movie

Danica McKellar is sharing all about her role in the Great American Family’s movie, THE WINTER PALACE.
“My character and I have a lot in common,” McKellar explained about her role in the movie, which came out in 2022. “So Emily is a writer. I do writing — writing math books. She’s a romance novel writer.”
“And she is a workaholic. She’s trying to write a book, and it’s not going well. It’s just she keeps just running into brick walls, and she comes to this winter palace to try to get some writing done.”
By staying at the palace, Emily learns to relax. McKellar shared she also sometimes needs to slow down and learn to relax.
“So that is a lesson that Emily has to learn through the course of the movie, and it’s always a good lesson for me to remember and remind myself of, which this movie has done for me,” THE WONDER YEARS star said. “As an actress, you have to look for the similarities between yourself and your character because then it’s just so much easier to embody the character and be real in that moment and really be expressing…a real frustration or a revelation.”
“The added bonus is that in real life, I get the benefit of that reminder,” she said.

In the movie, Emily finds some strength to finish her novel after meeting a handsome prince (Neal Bledsoe).
In an interview with The List, McKellar said her role as Emily was “one of the most creatively fulfilling roles I’ve ever played. It was just such a great collaboration on the set. And it was such a fun premise, just being stuck there in this beautiful chateau, but being forced to work for this family while I’m trying to write my book and looking for inspiration.”
“And the prince is in a… he’s about to become king,” she continued. And so, he’s dealing with his own stuff. And we end up kind of being exactly what the other one needs in the most unexpected ways.”
