Why Baylor University QB Finds His Identity in Jesus Christ
By Movieguide® Contributor
Baylor University quarterback Sawyer Robertson can play with freedom because he knows his identity comes from Christ, not how he throws a football.
“My identity comes through who Jesus Christ says I am and what He did on the cross,” he said in a post on Instagram. “I know because of that I’m taken care of, and because of that, I can play free.”
He recently opened up about how the faith community at Baylor keeps him grounded.
“It’s just a way for me to kind of like refocus, recenter and just spend time with the Lord and in community with other people,” Robertson told Sports Spectrum’s Annabelle Hasselbeck. “Because that’s the whole reason I’m here, right? And so that’s why I don’t play football for popularity or anything like that. I play football because it’s a platform for me to spread, you know, that positivity and be a light for other people and to be a witness for Jesus Christ.”

Robertson often uses his social media platform to be a light for Jesus.
In one post, he wrote, “Blessed” and then referenced Psalm 91:2: “I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

In another post, he included Proverbs 27:21, which says, “Silver is tested in a crucible, gold in a smelter, and a man, by the praise he receives.”
“I know who I am because I know WHOSE I am. Nothing more, nothing less,” Robertson added.
Robertson plans to use the spring season as an opportunity to better his on-field ability and also to grow closer to God and spread the gospel even more.
