Grammy-nominated Christian rock band Sanctus Real released a new single called “The Difference,” a bold proclamation of the band’s hope in Jesus and the transformative power of faith.
“We’ve all felt like hope has been missing in our world for a while. We go to churches all over the country, and it’s become one of our greatest mission fields because we see so many depressed and sad people in the church. So, we are in a season of writing songs about hope. When you put your faith in Jesus, He doesn’t just give you hope; He is our hope,” lead vocalist Dustin Lolli said of the song, per The Christian Beat.
“This song points to one thing only as the reason we believe we are transformed into new creations, and that’s through a relationship with Jesus,” Sanctus Real guitarist Chris Rohman added. “It’s a declaration of what we believe is possible through Jesus.”
The lyrics read:
You are the difference
You are the change
You are the reason
I’m not the sameFrom lost to found
From then to now
If they see something different
Oh, You are the difference
Those words are inspired by many different Bible verses, including 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV): “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Psalms 92:12-13 similarly points to how faith changes our lives: “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.”

“The difference between worldly success, like power, fame, and wealth, and the success of a true follower of Jesus in living a holy life is like the difference between grass, which only lasts a few days, and a palm tree that stands tall for centuries,” Sanctus Real wrote on Instagram.
Sanctus Real will be on tour beginning May 3 in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and ending Aug. 22 in Isle, Minnesota.
“We still love getting out there on the road and meeting people and making that personal, face-to-face connection. We don’t want a screen to constantly be between them and us. We literally put it in our band name 29 years ago; we want to be real. We want everything we do to be authentic,” drummer Mark Graalman told The Christian Beat. “I feel like we’re a better live band now than we’ve ever been.”
