Rock and roll legend Alice Cooper knows that true satisfaction can only be found in Jesus.

“I think if you don’t have the Lord in your life, you’re always going to be trying to fill that hole with something,” he told TBN.

Cooper knows all too well; that lifestyle used to be his.

“It’s either gonna be drugs, or it’s going to be Ferraris, or it’s going to be houses or wives or this or that or fame,” he explained. “And you’re never going to achieve it, because there’s that inner thing of us that, when we’re born, of reconnecting with God that’s there. And even if you deny, that’s what you’re searching for.”

When people are searching, they often cling onto the next new thing.

“And so, they’ll go to the new fad…I’m going to go be now a Buddhist. I’m now going to be a vegetarian goat yoga person. I’m going to be this. And they go through everything and still don’t find it. And the last place they look is the Lord,” Cooper continued.

The legendary rock star knows that giving one’s life to God is a profound commitment, which is why many people are afraid to take the leap.

“Once you say, ‘God, you’re my God, you’re my Savior,’ now you have to answer to Him.”

He added, “People do not want to give up their god-self, the self that they control. I control my life, right? Even people who go to church. I go to church. Okay, yeah, but you haven’t given yourself. You know, you haven’t given yourself fully. And that’s where the fulfillment comes from. You can’t explain that to somebody that’s not searching.”

Jesus saved Cooper in a miraculous way. Pastor Greg Laurie explained, “Alice, at one point, was the No. 1 rock star in all of the world. He started living the rock star life to excess. He was pretty much drunk every day he was using drugs heavily, his life began to unravel; his wife Sheryl left him.”

Cooper used cocaine, recalling, “I saw blood coming out of my eyes. I don’t know if it was a hallucination or if it was really happening, but all I knew was I was going to die.”

Laurie continued, “He got off drugs, he reunited with his wife and he’s been clean and sober for over 30 years. He gets up every morning, and he reads his Bible…He gave a Bible to [singer] Marilyn Manson.”

The pastor explores other iconic rock and roll stars’ relationship with Jesus in his book Lennon, Dylan, Alice, and Jesus: The Spiritual Biography of Rock and Roll, diving into their redemption stories.

“I do Bible study on Wednesday mornings,” Cooper recently told Louder Sound of how his life has changed, “and I go to church on Sunday. I grew up in a Christian home. About 14 years ago, it was time for me to make a commitment to change my life. I became baptized.”

He added, “I don’t go into the strip clubs, I don’t get drunk, and everybody knows that. The way people know I’m Christian is in how I talk and how I act.”

Cooper’s life is a reminder that no one is ever too far from the grace and love of God.
