Joy Gregory, the new showrunner for WHEN CALLS THE HEART (WCTH) Season 13, teased where the show is headed, including Nathan and Elizabeth’s future as well as an investigation that could have a profound impact on the future of Hope Valley.
“I am so excited that we got to launch [Nathan and Elizabeth] toward Cape Fullerton, to literally put them on new territory…” Gregory told The Official Hearties Aftershow. “They’re going to co-parent someone who has a chronic illness. And while we certainly aren’t going to dwell in the kind of peril that we brought to the end of our season, we do want to honor the reality of that and how it might change Elizabeth.”
“There’s opportunities for real growth of her character through adversity, but also through, of course, love and sharing her burden with Nathan…” she continued. “I’m excited to lean into watching their relationship mature together…through good times and challenges.”
Gregory also shared that Bill and Nathan will be involved in an investigation during the upcoming season that could have a serious impact on Hope Valley.
“Of course, Bill and Nathan will have an important case,” she teased. “It’s gonna be a case that’s deeply connected to the town in a really urgent, personal way.”
This news is exciting for fans of WCTH, though they will have to wait nearly a year to see any of the new storylines for themselves.
Season 12 of the show proved to be quite eventful, as, along with the normal drama in the series, the show also guest starred LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE’s Melissa Gilbert for a special two-episode story arc. The collaboration was especially fun for WCTH star Erin Krakow who is a big fan of Gilbert’s.
“Just a couple of prairie girls!” Krakow wrote on an Instagram post with Gilbert. “Grateful and honored @melissagilbertofficial has joined us in Hope Valley! Total pro, so down to earth, sweet as pie – and fun at parties. ?”
Season 12 also introduced Miranda MacDougall as Edie Martell who has shaken up the town since her arrival. She has become particularly close with Lucas, a relationship that is sure to be further explored in season 13.
“They have vested interests in two very different places when they begin,” MacDougall told The Edify Show about her character’s relationship with Lucas. “Edie’s a lawyer. She doesn’t have much of a connection to Hope Valley when she first kind of enters the scene, given that she’s inherited a ranch in a neighboring town. But as things have it, Mr. Bouchard just keeps coming into her life, and they keep bumping into each other. So that said, I think that it lays a really nice groundwork for a complex relationship going forward.”
While no official date has been given, fans are expecting to receive Season 13 of WCTH in early 2026, and it is exciting to know that a lot is already planned for the upcoming season.
