As the Robertson family continues to mourn Phil Robertson’s death, they’re also remembering how he lived a life unashamed for God.

“As he got older, you started seeing more of the love of Christ and the character of God, even in his last few months. I mean, he was doing things that were downright syrupy,” Phil’s son Jase said on the “Unashamed” podcast.

Zach Dasher added, “Jesus is the main character. Phil was a sinful man like the rest of us…but it’s funny how you’ll take the flaws of a man, and we make fun of that like that. We laugh at that, but we laugh at it because we truly believe that love covers a multitude of sins.”

He added, “So the man’s life, like whatever flaws he had were just swallowed up by his love for God and the grace of God. And I think you see that that’s, I mean, that’s the kingdom, you know?”

Dasher is referencing 1 Peter 4:8, which says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

Jase said that his dad followed Jesus’ example and wasn’t afraid of tough conversations.

“When you look at what Jesus’s life was about, he had very difficult conversations,” Jase said.

“He didn’t care about making people mad, glad or sad, because he did — every time he had a conversation with him — he spoke the truth in love. That’s what he did. I made the point that Phil, after a while, it hit me that this is God living in him. This is this is Jesus living in him.”

Jase explained that his dad first “died” at 28 years old when he gave his life to Jesus: “Phil Robertson’s funeral happened when he was 28, because…that person needed to die.”

2023’s THE BLIND shared Phil’s testimony on the big screen. A synopsis reads:
