A study revealed that people who regularly read their Bible score higher on the human flourishing index, a tool used to determine the health and happiness experienced by an individual.
“The study of Human Flourishing, developed at Harvard, has been part of our own survey for several years now,” said the chief innovation officer at the American Bible Society, John Farquhar Plake. “This year we saw an encouraging uptick in flourishing overall and found high flourishing levels among Scripture Engaged Gen Z and Millennials. These finding further support our research into the positive relationship between Bible engagement and holistic well-being.”
Millennials and Gen Zers who regularly engage with scripture averaged a high flourishing score of 8.1. Their peers typically scored much lower, with their average at 6.8. Scripture engaging people even outscored those in the Boomer generation who had the highest average at 7.5.
In general, the youngest generations score lower on the human flourishing scale due to the effects of longtime technology use during their developmental years. Study after study has shown that high screen time and frequent social media use during childhood and teenage years has a variety of downsides including increased anxiety and depression, both of which lower human flourishing ratings.
However, the emptiness that the world offers has led many in these generations to seek religion and find something that truly fulfills their soul. While the devil leads many astray through false religions like the occult, this increased interest in religion has also brought many to the Lord, sparking a spiritual revival nationwide.
Across college campuses, for example, at secular and religious schools, thousands of students have come to faith in recent years, led by many who have a national spotlight on them. At Ohio State, the National Championship winning football team had numerous players of faith who pointed to God at every turn.
“I just encourage you to step out in faith. Whatever you’re going through in life – whatever you’ve been through – I’m telling you there’s a God that desires you,” wide receiver and team captain, Kamryn Babb, told his fellow students at a worship night put on by the football team. “So as we get into this worship, as we get into everything, we pray that you would see Him as He sees you. So as we get into this night, let’s give Him the glory.”

It is amazing to see how the Lord is on the move in America and that those who follow Him have a measurable difference in their life that makes them generally happier and healthier than their peers.
