Do want more joy in your life? Christian artist and pastor Tauren Wells has some practical tips on how to foster a life of filled with this quality.
“What practical advice would you give to the person that’s saying, I want to have more joy in my life?” former BACHELOR star Madison Prewett Troutt asked him on her podcast.
Wells responded, “One of the plagues of our time is we want quick fixes. We want immediate change.”
He isn’t wrong. In a culture of fast food, touch screens and instance gratification, we are wired to desire quick results.
Wells continued, “This kind of like a long-haul journey. This is joy as you go. This is learning, the practice of humility. If you’re so self-conscious that every room you walk into, you’re thinking about, ‘How do I look? How do I come across? How do I say this? How do I perform? How do I please people?’ That’s compounding in your life to sabotage your joy. But if you’re walking into a room saying, ‘How do I serve? How do I give? How do I listen?’ Those things lead to a life of joy.”
Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Joy takes trust, which takes patience.
Prewett Troutt chimed in, “It’s relational. It not religion to do’s ‘Check, check, check.’ It’s just be. It’s dwell. It’s spend time in His presence.”
People in the comment section of the video shared their thoughts. “Yes!!! Soo good!! Such a beautiful perspective on joy 🔥” one user said. Another person added, “Beautiful message 🙏🏾 I’ve just been reminded that JOY is deeply rooted in our identity in Christ. It’s not a checklist or of outer provenance but rather from an inner source (GOD).”
Along with his music career, Wells cofounded and leads of Church of White Stone in Texas.
Joy is a topic he explored further in his recent book Joy Bomb:
“We find more in this life than we ever imagined when we understand the patterns and promises of God’s kingdom. More fulfillment, more purpose, more satisfaction — and radical joy,” part of synopsis of the book reads.
This is a great reminder that the amount of joy we have in our life is directly tied to our relationship with God.
