Donnie Wahlberg can’t wait for BLUE BLOODS fans to see what’s next for Danny Reagan in BOSTON BLUE.
“A new day. A new city. A new opportunity. A new adventure. The same gratitude,” he posted on his Instagram Story accompanied by a Christian worship song by Passion and Kristian Stanfill.
The post included the Toronto, Ontario, skyline where the first table read for the new police procedural took place.
In a later Story, he shared a photo of his script with the caption “A new chapter.”
The flagship show BLUE BLOODS ended after 14 seasons last December, despite the fight from both cast members and fans to save it. Even though it was one of the top CBS dramas, the network couldn’t keep up with how expensive it was to produce, per Screen Rant.
BOSTON BLUE will follow Danny Reagan as moves from New York to Boston to resume his career as a detective. The synopsis reads, “In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”
Sonequa Martin-Green will star as Danny’s new partner, alongside Ernie Hudson, Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson and Marcus Scribner.
Martin-Green took to Instagram several weeks ago to share a photo of her and Wahlberg and to express her excitement for the new series.
“And then the page turned and I said, ‘Wow Lord for real?!’ 😄” she began in the caption. “Grateful to be back in the @cbstv family. Honored to step into another beloved television legacy and make something new. Really excited for what God will do through this. Alright @donniewahlberg let’s go my friend! ♥️”
Just because this show isn’t the beloved BLUE BLOODS doesn’t mean Wahlberg is taking it any less seriously. Recently, the actor, who’s also singer for the ’90s band New Kids on the Block, shared that he had to take it easy at a recent concert.
Wahlberg revealed that he had hurt his leg and told the crowd, “I gotta start filming a TV show on Monday. You know, this is what we’re going to be doing on Fridays until we get back here in November. Let’s go!”
BOSTON BLUE is set to premiere this fall on CBS.
