While discussing NCIS: TONY AND ZIVA, stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo explained that the upcoming project will answer the questions NCIS super fans have had about their characters since they left the flagship show.
“The interesting part of the way this show unfolds… is this sort of non-linear approach to telling the story which allows us not only to tell a ripping good yarn, but also go back through time and address a lot of the questions that Cote and I would get over the decade that transpired,” Weatherly, who plays Tony DiNozzo, told Screen Rant.
“What happened to them? Where are they? How are they doing? Are they together? Are they raising this child? I mean, so many questions,” de Pablo (Ziva David) jumped in to add.
From everything revealed about the show so far, TONY AND ZIVA is clearly based on answering these questions as the pair attempt to reconcile their past, work towards a shared future and fight for their daughter. This, however, does not mean everything will be smooth sailing for the couple who have been apart for years.
“There was one thing that I told Michael, I said, ‘I’m not interested in telling the story if, in the end, there is not some sort of happy something, you know?’” de Pablo previously said. “I think they deserve a…But! Before we get to that again, we have to earn it. So we’re going to see them go through a lot of stuff.”

The premise for the show sets up this tension well, as Tony and Ziva live in Paris together after Tony tracked his partner down after learning she was still alive. Meanwhile, Tony has been running a security company, which gets attacked, causing the pair to have to flee and shelter in cities across Europe until they can figure out who is targeting them. All the while, they are focused on keeping their daughter, Tali, safe from any harm.
“Every choice that Tony and Ziva have to make in their adventure, their child is first and foremost in the front of their mind. When we were on the NCIS the mothership, we didn’t have children,” Weatherly said earlier this year when explaining how Tali impacts the show
“When you have a child, you have to navigate what is best for them,” he continued. “Then maybe you have a co-parent that you have a tumultuous relationship with…and oh, wait, we also have to save the world.”
NCIS: TONY AND ZIVA is set to release on Paramount+. The first three episodes will premiere on Sept. 4, followed by new episodes every week through Oct. 23.
