Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band plan will honor WWII heroes with “a powerful tribute” concert later this summer.

“Honoring the heroes of the Greatest Generation, our nation’s World War II veterans, has always been close to my heart,” Sinise said in a statement. “My Uncle Jack, a B-17 navigator in WWII, played a big role in inspiring my deep respect for those who served during that time.”

The commemorative concert will take place at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum in Hawaii on Aug. 30, kicking off a commemorative exhibit at Battleship Missouri Memorial and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. The exhibit runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

“Through the Gary Sinise Foundation, we’ve worked to make sure their legacy, and the sacrifices they made for our freedom, are never forgotten,” Sinise continued. “As we mark the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII, it’s a true privilege to bring the Lt. Dan Band to Hawaii on August 30th to honor, salute and say thank you to these incredible men and women. We owe them so much.”

The Gary Sinise Foundation teamed up with the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation to make the event possible.

“We are honored to remember the heroes of World War II as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII,” Linda Hope, Chair and CEO of the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, said as well. “Joining with Gary Sinise, it is our privilege to pay tribute to the valor and sacrifice of those who served in our military during World War II, as well as to the everyday Americans on the home front who also sacrificed to help restore peace to the world. We are proud to salute the service and honor the hope of our Greatest Generation.”

Though Sinise works to serve all veterans, he’s put a special emphasis on WWII service members lately.

Earlier this month, he honored WWII vets by bringing them to The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Each veteran was paired with a high school student, “the same age many of them were when they first served, so their stories and sacrifices can be passed on to the next generation firsthand.”

The foundation will take another group of veterans to the museum later this summer as an opportunity to “honor their service and share their stories before it’s too late.”

Like Sinise, we too can take time to honor those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.
