Alexa PenaVega explained why approaching difficult situations with a responding heart rather than a reactive one leads to productive changes, rather than more problems.

“In any life situation, when we come against any sort of adversity or things that we’re passionate about, especially if, like, somebody’s doing something wrong, we can easily get reactive. Like, we want justice…But the problem with a reactive person is no matter how right you are to like right the wrong with what’s happening, you become the issue,” PenaVega explained

“Everybody turns it back on you…and that is the problem when you react,” she continued. “When you respond, when you’re slow to speak, quick to listen, and you allow the Holy Spirit to really work in you, your responses are so much more powerful and because you aren’t reacting, it’s not able to be flipped and manipulated into something that ends up making you the bad guy.”

While some people are naturally gifted with the patience required to live this way, most people can only do so through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5:22, Paul reveals that patience is one of the fruits of the spirit.

Meanwhile,  James 1:19 teaches, “My dear brothers and sister, take not of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” further confirming what PenaVega said.

The actress previously shared that rooting herself in God has allowed her marriage to be so fruitful because she and her husband Carlos have patience and grace for each other even when they are wronged.

“God has already given us all the tools to be able to handle any relationship and He’s given us a great foundation and how to deal with conflict and how to deal with frustrations. It literally goes down to the basics of the fruits of the Spirit,” she told Movieguide®.

Having experienced just how much of a difference being rooted in faith impacts their life, the PenaVegas not only work to share the gospel through their platforms but through their work as well. As they continue to be involved in the entertainment industry, they now both seek projects that have a redemptive aspect to the story.

“I think the biggest thing is finding characters that…are broken, like all of us, but really have that redemption in the end,” PenaVega said. “And…it doesn’t have to be a faith-based movie.”

It is amazing how the PenaVegas have seen the faithful hand of God throughout their lives as they passionately encourage others to seek the Lord so they can enjoy the same fruit.
