The next Agatha Christie series, TOMMY & TUPPENCE, won’t feature that old Hercule Poirot or the most popular of Christie’s stories, but it will have some exciting characters.

The BritBox show will feature detectives Tommy and Tuppence with Imelda Staunton, Antonia Thomas, Saffron Burrows, Sean Pertwee, Alice Krige, Alex Jennings and Josh Dylan in a six-part modern adaptation, TV Insider reported.

“Christie’s detective duo are witty, sharp, and raring to solve lots and lots of murders whilst asking if they should really be more than just Partners in Crime…To bring Tommy and Tuppence into the 21st century is truly an honor,” said the show’s writer, Phoebe Eclair-Powell.

The logline reads, “The new series will reimagine Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in the modern world, more than a century after they first appeared together in Christie’s The Secret Adversary. In the first contemporary English language television series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s stories, Tommy and Tuppence are a detective duo for the ages. They fall in love, fall out of it, and tumble back in, all while solving some thrilling, entertaining mysteries along the way.”

The series will be set in Hampstead in North London, Deadline reported.

The married detective couple appear in several of Christie’s stories. They were introduced in their 20s and aged into their 70s in later novels.

In the books, Tommy and Tuppence grew up together, eventually launching a business called “The Young Adventurers” before falling in love and getting married.

Thomas stars as Tuppence, and Dylan stars as Tommy. Staunton plays Tommy’s detective aunt, Ada.

It’s been 10 years since any Christie story with these characters aired. The last was BBC’s adaptation of PARTNERS IN CRIME.

The project will film later this year. There’s no release date scheduled as of yet.

BritBox boasts the largest collection of Agatha Christie content.

Sept. 15 marked the author’s 135th birthday. The Smithsonian celebrated her birthday on Monday in a live event with chemist Kathryn Harkup, who shared the science behind a few of Christie’s deadly substances and their use in real-life murder cases.

In a testament to Christie’s broad appeal, there has been a recent surge of Christie adaptations in the last decade. DEATH ON THE NILE, A HAUNTING IN VENICE, CHECKMATE and THE PALE HORSE are a few. Last year, Cinema Daily US and other outlets reported George Tillman Jr. will direct an upcoming AND THEN THERE WERE NONE adaptation.
