Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey “just keep[s] livin'” — a motto that directs his approach to life and what he does to best “take care of the family.”

“That’s something that’s non-negotiable in my life,” the actor recently told Fox News Digital of protecting his family. “That’s one of those fires that’s going to…I started when I met Camilla 19 years ago, and we’ve continued as we have kids and when the kids get out of the house and Camilla and I continue on, those are fires that I want to keep putting fuel on. I want to keep building those. Those are non-negotiable. Those are always on my proverbial desk in my life.”

Another way he puts his best foot forward for his family is by keeping his faith strong.

“I want to keep my faith as strong as possible, because when my faith is strong…I have more courage to take risks in my life and follow through on them,” he emphasized.

Staying physically healthy also enables McConaughey to take care of those he loves the most.

“Keep moving, it seems like, man, one of the things that gets everybody in old age is they have trouble staying on their feet,” he explained. “And it’s not the injury from getting hit, it’s the doggone injury from dropping the keys and trying to reach back and pick them up the wrong way and all the other back. Or an elder falls and breaks a hip. It’s usually pretty close, man. They’re going out, so try and stay on your feet.”

McConaughey’s new book, Poems and Prayers, released last week. It’s an “inspiring, faith-filled, and often hilarious collection of personal poetry and prayers about navigating the rodeo of life and chasing down the original dream, belief.”

The actor opened up about why he created the book in an Instagram video.

“I found myself doubting the future, friends, people, strangers, myself, God even, and starting to get a little bit cynical,” he said. “And I believe cynicism is a disease, one that we choose, and it can kill us while we’re still living. And I’m not going to go there, and I don’t think any of us should go there.”

“Prayer comes from worship, and worship means to have the humility, to bow down and bend, to put your heart above your head, which, just engineering-wise, is a beautiful definition of why we pray,” he continued. “May your heart carry your feet. May all of our hearts carry our feet.”

It’s incredible to see an actor of McConaughey’s caliber keep family and faith first in his life.
