More Detail:

THE CHOSEN ADVENTURES is an animated series streaming on Prime Video based on Dallas Jenkins’ popular show THE CHOSEN. It follows the story of Abby, a young girl living in 1st-century Capernaum whose curiosity and boldness lead her on many adventures. She is joined by her best friend, Joshua, and her pet sheep, who, along with his friend Pigeon, make many funny remarks for the audience’s ears only. The adventures include meeting Jesus, befriending a young Roman guard, and the perils of running errands for her mother.

The first episode introduces Abby to the audience, portraying her as a curious young girl who asks her parents an endless onslaught of questions. Abby’s parents sent her to the synagogue to ask the Rabbi about wasps. When he too is unable to answer her question, she explores the nearby woods, where she stumbles upon a stranger’s camp. The stranger happens to be Jesus, who answers her questions.

The second episode focuses on Shabbat – the Jewish word for sabbath – and why anyone would engage in such a practice. Feeling hindered by the practice, Abby asks how it can be a good thing, but her parents begin to show her some of the things they would have missed, such as enjoying the light of the stars on their rooftop. Finally, they discuss the story of creation with her and explain how God rested on the seventh day, setting an example for His people.

The third episode follows Abby as she goes out and runs errands for her mother. Things, however, do not go to plan. First, Abby loses the errand list. Then, she loses the flour she just picked up from Joshua. Next, she loses the pie she picked up from the baker. Finally, the vase she goes to pick up gets stuck over her head. When she returns home, she is upset, but her mother promises her that God uses all things for good. Meanwhile, Pigeon reveals what she saw as Abby was protected from multiple mishaps and provided blessings for others because of her bad day.

The fourth episode finds Abby searching for Sheep after he decides to hide from her. When Abby is unable to see him, her father promises to locate the pet while Abby and her mother attend the synagogue teaching. When they arrive at the synagogue, however, Abby has trouble paying attention because she finds the Rabbi boring. During the service, however, Jesus makes a special reading and encourages those in the audience who have difficulty paying attention to let their minds daydream, but to let the word inform that daydream. This trick works great for Abby, and Sheep comes out of hiding when they return home.

In the fifth episode, an important Roman soldier comes to town along with his son, Hilarious. The soldier is a complete bully to the people of Capernaum, and Hilarious follows his father’s lead. Eventually, Hilarious meets Abby and Joshua out in the country where they are playing, and he joins their games. However, he cheats, so he always wins, causing Abby incredible frustration. She suggests they switch roles, and she pretends to be a young Roman. After they do so, Hilarious realizes just how badly he treats others. This causes him to change his ways.

The sixth episode sees Abby storm into the house after being bullied at the market. She has a desire for revenge and recruits Joshua to help her brainstorm ways to get back at her bully. They spend the rest of the day thinking up plans and are eventually joined by Hilarious. Abby settles on forming a puddle in front of the bully’s house to ruin her sandals. When the plan goes off without a hitch, however, Abby doesn’t feel satisfaction after getting her revenge. Then, Jesus appears and explains that revenge does not satisfy the soul, but forgiveness does.
