NCIS superfans will finally get NCIS: NEW ORLEANS’ Dwayne Pride’s backstory in an upcoming episode of NCIS: ORIGINS.
The episode will see a younger Pride, originally played by Scott Bakula on NEW ORLEANS from 2014 to 2021, join the younger versions of “Gibbs (Austin Stowell), Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid and Muse Watson), Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez and Roma Maffia), Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard (Adam Campbell and David McCallum), and Tobias Fornell (Lucas Dixon and Joe Spano),” TV Insider said.
Creatives are currently casting the young Pride, a “Probationary Special Agent from the NIS Panama office. He has a history with Gibbs (Austin Stowell), and the two must resolve their past tension as they go undercover on a case.”

“One of the special things about NCIS: ORIGINS is being able to explore the early days of so many beloved characters from the franchise,” co-showrunners and executive producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North said in an interview with TV Insider. “We’re excited to go back in time and meet the 1990s version of New Orleans’ pride and joy, the legendary Special Agent Dwayne Pride, and learn more about his history with Gibbs.”
It’s speculated that ORIGINS will return to where and how Gibbs and Pride first met and why Gibbs could trust Pride “with my life.”
Now in its second season, ORIGINS, a prequel series, “delves deeper into the unstoppable NCIS Camp Pendleton team, led by the legendary Mike Franks, as well as Gibbs’ early career as a special agent, and reveals the fate of Lala after last season’s devastating car crash. Facing new threats, higher stakes and defining moments that shape their professional and personal lives, one fact is certain: This team always has each other’s backs,” a synopsis of the season reads.
On the latest episode, Mark Harmon returned as Gibbs.
“Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude,” North and Monreal told Variety. “We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark and have wondered what Gibbs is up to today. Well, on Nov. 11, we’re so excited to announce that Mark Harmon will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the ORIGINS hour of the NCIS crossover event. We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say Gibbs is no longer alone.”
“I’m very proud of the storytelling that David and Gina are doing on ORIGINS,” Harmon echoed. “They continue to push boundaries and dive deeper into the characters’ backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and it seemed like a good time to check in with him. I hope fans enjoy it.”
NCIS: ORIGINS releases every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET.
