Country singer Trisha Yearwood put her career on hold to spend quality time with her family.
“When I married Garth and I moved to Oklahoma, I stopped,” she said of her decision to set music aside for a time.
The double platinum artist married country legend Garth Brooks in 2005 after many years of friendship. They originally met in 1987 in Nashville while doing a recording session. Later in 1991, Brooks sang background vocals in Yearwood’s hit “She’s in Love with the Boy.”
Yearwood explained, “I wasn’t touring 200 days a year anymore. I was a bonus mom to three children, and I was trying to make a marriage work, because I had learned that marriages don’t work if you’re never together.”
Instead of singing on stages, she took time to make family-life her priority.

“That’s kind of important. You have to be together,” she emphasized. “I made a conscious effort to be there, to go to soccer games and cook dinner.”
Yearwood also credits her parents for her strong family values.
“I was raised by really great parents. My mom and dad, who are both passed on, but they’re still with me…It’s family. It’s about how you’re raised.”
She added, “I always say, ‘I don’t always do the right thing, but I know what the right thing is because of how I was raised.’ It’s them; it’s my family.”
In a past interview, Brooks shared just how much he adores his wife.
“You’re looking at the luckiest, most blessed guy on the planet,” Brooks told reporters before embarking on their Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood in 2014. “I’m madly in love with her, and I can’t stand to spend a day without her.”
At the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year, Yearwood said of her husband, “I have a lot of Garths in my life, but the first Garth that I met is here. The one who has really been a cheerleader. As many accolades and awards as he has won, I never see him get more excited than he does when I receive something. For all the people that want this for me, nobody wants it more than you. I appreciate you for being my support.”
Earlier this month, Yearwood released a special album titled Christmastime.
“I love these songs,” she said of the album. “It’s a mix of traditional…there’s a couple of more ‘modern’ songs…and then there’s an original co-written song that Garth and I wrote together.”
Yearwood and Brooks’ story is one that shows the importance of prioritizing family and marriage over any worldly success.
