Jennifer Garner joined E! News to share her favorite family holiday traditions.
“I’m making a small Thanksgiving this year, so I asked my kids what they had to have to make it mean Thanksgiving, and they were like, ‘Okay, well, turkey and your gravy and homemade bread and pies,'” Garner shared.
Then, for Christmas, Garner loves “getting the Christmas tree, decorating, all the typical things. It just takes on its own little special twist when it’s with your own family,” she said.
The following year, Garner joined the TODAY Show and shared, “You know, there is just a lot of fun. It’s a lot of forced joy because I feel like any traditions you force when they are little, they appreciate when they are older.
“It’s a lot of that,” she continued. “Music boxes, things going off wherever you walk by, lots of music happening. Lots of music. And, you know, all of it. I want it all. I want all of it.”

When she released a 2024 gift guide with KitchenAid, Garner revealed one of her kids “specializes in mashed potatoes, that’s their specialty, I have one kid who is all about making an apple pie, that’s their specialty, and then I have one who goodness only knows what she will make.”
Even though Thanksgiving is a big deal in the Garner household, one of the 13 GOING ON 30 actress’ kids couldn’t wait for Christmas.
“”The other night I got home from work, and my son had Christmas music playing full blast through the whole house, and he was wearing an apron and he was making ginger snaps,” she told PEOPLE.
“And it was just like, ‘That’s what I’m looking for. That is the energy that I want to see brought to our house right now,'” she added.
On social media, Garner shared her Christmas decorations she put up outside, but one video included her dinosaur with a turkey on its head.
“Me: Christmas ✔️🎄 My dinosaur: Hold your horses 🦃,” Garner captioned the post.
She’ll also be making a Roasted Fennel and Farro Salad as a side dish this year.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the hunt for a new side dish to accompany all the traditional Thanksgiving staples. I’m on the hunt for something seasonal, flavorful, but 🌟 EASY🌟,” she said of the delicious-looking salad.
It looks like the holidays are a joyful time for Garner and her kids!
