Christian band We Are Messengers released its first full-length Christmas album, Rejoice! (A Celtic Christmas), which reached the top five on the iTunes all-genre chart.
“We wanted to do something that reminded us of the beautiful, rich cultural heritage that we have here in Ireland, so we recorded a traditional Irish record just for you,” Darren Mulligan, the band’s lead vocalist, shared with The Christian Beat. “I hope you love the record. Cheers!”
The album features 10 classic songs:
- “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”
- “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”
- “I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day”
- “The Wexford Carol”
- “Thorn and Thistle”
- “Angels From The Realms of Glory”
- “We Three Kings”
- “In The Bleak Midwinter”
- “O Holy Night”
- “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus (Rejoice)”

Mulligan shared more about the heart behind the album on Instagram.
“I hope that you’ve been enjoying our new Christmas record: Rejoice! (A Celtic Christmas). I have to say that it’s one of my favorite records we’ve ever done as a band,” he said. “You know, we recorded the music a couple of hours from here down in West Meath. We shot the music video just across the mountain here from where I’m standing right now at my home in Ireland.”
“This record is full of old anthems that have been reimagined through our culture and our heritage, our musical heritage,” he continued. “And I couldn’t be more delighted with how it sounds and how it feels. And ultimately, I think it tells the good news of Jesus Christ and celebrates the season that we celebrate right now, which is Christmas.”
“So Merry Christmas to each of you, I hope you know and understand and cherish the love of Jesus in your life,” Mulligan concluded.
We Are Messengers was thrilled to see fans love the album to the top five of the iTunes all genres chart.
“Madness! Top 5 all genres on iTunes for the past couple of weeks. When we tracked this passion project, a Celtic Christmas in Ireland, we never imagined God would light the fuse on this like He has done. Feeling very thankful,” the band wrote on social media.
We Are Messengers is set to begin their Celtic Christmas Tour on Dec. 4 in West Seneca, New York, and travel through several states before wrapping it up on Jan. 30 in Australia.
Rejoice! (A Celtic Christmas) can be streamed and downloaded on all music streaming platforms.
