New York Knicks forward Trey Jemison shared a powerful truth he recently learned: that the things that God says about His followers are only life-changing if we believe them.

“Okay, God says I am all of these things. God says I am a conqueror. I am more than a conqueror. I am healed. But I don’t feel those things. But, if everybody else sees them in me and I don’t see them, it ain’t the devil holding me back, it’s not God testing me; I’m holding myself back,” Jemison said. “See, you gotta truly believe in your heart that the things that you speak to yourself, that you pray over are real…That, when you walk this life out with Christ, that you go pray this word of God over your life, you gotta believe it for yourself. You can encourage people all day, speak life to people all day and believe it’s gonna work out for them, that’s great, but it won’t make a difference in your life until you believe it in your heart.”

This powerful truth that impacted Jemison personally came as a part of his Bible study which he has been sharing on social media for the better half of a year. The athlete uses the platform given to him by the NBA to encourage his followers and help them better understand the Lord.

In March, for example, Jemison released a video where he discussed the power of relying on God’s plan and truly trusting that He will use all things for good, rather than listening to the wisdom of the world.

“But God, that’s it. That’s the Bible study,” Jemison said. “See, we live in a world where everybody has an opinion. Everybody can speak up, and that’s a blessing. I think, speak your mind, but it comes to a point in time where people will put their fears, their doubts, their insecurities, all to you, and even if they might be correct, if what they are saying is correct about you, I want you to end this sentence with but God. I’ll use myself as an example. When I was 18, I had two knee surgeries, and the doctor was like, ‘It might not be the same ever again.’”

“But God – I’m healed from top of my head to the soles of my feet. When I was trying to get into the NBA, they were like, he’s six nine and three quarters, he’s 6 10′, he’s too short to play the five. He probably won’t get a chance to play in the NBA. But God said ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,’” he added, quoting Philippians 4:13.

Jemison takes this message with him, understanding that he is a NBA player by the grace of God, rather than because of anything he did on his own.

“There’s no way I should be in the NBA. There’s no way I should be 6’10”. There’s no way I should be with the Lakers right now,” he reflected. “When God has opened doors for me I have to remember who brought me here. So my platform is used to impact peoples lives.”

Jemison’s Bible study encourages and shares great, godly wisdom with those who follow him. It is amazing to see a young basketball star place his focus on the Lord and use his platform to proclaim the gospel.
