Sadie Robertson Huff learned a valuable lesson — that her outside appearance does not define her as a person.

“I know if I walk through the airport dressed like I am today, I’m going to get stopped and recognized and take pictures of people. If I walk through the airport in my pajamas or casual clothes, and Christian’s seen this, with no makeup on, nobody even like notices me,” Huff said in an episode of her “WHOA That’s Good ” podcast.

“It’s kind of nice and funny, but if I was like, ‘I always have to be put together, because that’s the version people notice me, and that’s the version people like,’ that would be so much pressure on myself, and it’s not healthy,” she continued. “I have to be okay with going, ‘Okay, I might not get a compliment today, I might not get recognized today, but I’m confident enough in who I am with no makeup on and sweats and whatever, because my look doesn’t define me.’ You know, my look, it might look better to people, but that’s not like where I find my confidence in who I am, and so I think that’s what you have to check with yourself.”

Through her relationship with Jesus and because of His work on the cross, Huff knows her outside appearance does not define her. Like the DUCK DYNASTY star, though , many people struggle to put their identity in what really matters — how God sees us.

The Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7, “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’”

While we as people tend to look at what others wear or their makeup or social media presence, God doesn’t care about those things, and when we can see others, and ourselves, as God does, He will change our perspective.

God ultimately cares about the fruit we produce in our lives. Are we producing anger, envy, jealousy, lust, greed and negative fruits? Or are we creating a life filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control?

Let’s take a cue from Huff and remember that our value and worth do not come from outward appearances but rather from what Jesus did for us on the cross. We can live each day with confidence knowing that Jesus loves us just as we are.
