RELATIONSHIP GOALS is a fast-paced, hilarious romcom on Prime Video that keeps viewers engaged the whole time.

Leah Caldwell, a producer at a morning news outlet, is looking forward to the biggest promotion in her career: showrunner. She’s worked hard to get this far, and now the top position is in her grasp.

However, as she sits down at her boss’s desk to officially receive the promotion, she hears something she was not expecting. The news outlet has decided to bring in another candidate to test for the job, citing her lack of being a team player. She will have to work alongside him for the next six weeks as the studio observes and picks one of them to become the showrunner.

Leah is stunned but pulls herself together and swears she will come out on top. Things get ever more unsettling, however, when she finds out that the candidate the studio has chosen is her unfaithful ex-boyfriend, Jarret Roy. As she observes him settling into his new office, she knows she must do everything in her power to beat him.

As the two work together as producers, they end up spending most of their time bickering and glaring at each other. Things begin to change, however, when they interview Pastor Michael Todd about his book, RELATIONSHIP GOALS, for a Valentine’s Day special. Todd speaks on the importance of intentional dating and bringing God into romantic relationships.

Leah shuns Pastor Todd’s words, but some of her colleagues begin to put them into practice and bring God into their romantic relationships. Leah can’t deny the positive effect this change has on them as they begin to lead godly lives. Over the course of the coming weeks, she spends lots of time with Jarret as he continually tries to reconcile with her. Slowly, she begins to realize that she must either choose her job and block Jarret out forever, or she must choose to give him another chance and reconnect with him.

RELATIONSHIP GOALS is fantastically filmed and will make you laugh. It is quick-paced and snappy, leading to an attention-grabbing watch. As the two leads, Kelly Rowland and Method Man fit their roles perfectly, and their character development couldn’t have been done better. With that said, there are two or so scenes that are clearly fillers and don’t add much to the story in any way. They may shake some viewers out of the movie’s rhythm, but the movie flows well for the most part.

RELATIONSHIP GOALS has some great messages stressing faith and godly love. The pastor interviewed in the movie does a great job laying out how God needs to be at the center of our lives and how people must be intentional and pure in their relationships. There’s also a short message from a pastor on how people must forget the unimportant things holding them back in life and push forward to what God has in store for them. Also, people quote Scripture, and there’s a sincere change in people’s hearts as they begin to let God into their lives and their relationships.

However, the movie muddies the water with some unnecessary scenes and dialogue with sexual innuendos and even an implied sex scene showing a barely dressed dating couple in bed together. Also, the dialogue in RELATIONSHIP GOALS has some foul language and other edgy comments, including some occult references to voodoo. The point is clearly to show the sinful lives the characters were living before they began to let God into their lives. However, too much of the content is unnecessary and more provocative than it should have been. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong or extreme content for RELATIONSHIP GOALS.
