Evangelist Bryce Crawford shed some light on the meaning behind Good Friday’s name.

“Why is it called Good Friday?” he asked during an episode of the “Bryce Crawford Podcast.” “Why do Christians call the day that Jesus Christ was crucified Good Friday? I mean, in my opinion, that’s not even that good of a day.”

Crawford explained, “The reason we call it Good Friday is it’s a good day for you and me…it’s the day you and I had a chance to be set free from the things that keep us bound and separated from God: our sin.”

“The reason it’s called Good Friday is because for the first time in any pinpoint of history, any human being can accept this free gift called friendship with the God of the universe that offers them a clean slate from the sins and rebellion that they’ve done against God,” he continued.

Crawford concluded, “So when we celebrate Good Friday and we celebrate Resurrection Sunday and we celebrate Palm Sunday, we have to understand that the goodness aspect of the crucifixion of Christ is for us.”

The internet evangelist has spoken about why he feels called to share the gospel with others, telling Crosswalk, “Jesus saved my life Dec. 25 of 2020.”

“The love that God has for me has fueled me to love people,” Crawford continued. “It’s the greatest commandment — love God and love people. And so it’s what God has done in my life, and the love that He has shown me that gives me that same strength to be bold and love people.”

He continued, “I think there’s a real, visible hunger for God. And I think it’s almost tangible. And I think the thing that’s driving it is we’re tired of fluff. We’re tired of fake stuff. Phones and entertainment have been the gateway to a lot of vices in people’s lives.”

“I think my generation has gotten tired very quickly of fake stuff. And so that’s why they’re turning to Jesus — because Jesus is the truth. He’s not a truth. He is the truth. And so because they’re finding Jesus, they’re going: Wow, this is everything I’ve searched for everywhere. … That’s why I believe we’re seeing a real sense of revival,” Crawford finished.

In an interview with Charisma Magazine, he shared some insight into his ministering process.

“We need more one-on-one conversations that treat human beings as human beings, rather than…statistics,” he explained

For example, Crawford shared that he does “not believe in the prosperity gospel” but added, “I’m going to be fair…I’m going to be gentle, and I want to talk about it” in an effort to “understand” those that do.

Crawford’s look at the true meaning of Good Friday’s name reminds us of Jesus’ sacrifice as we prepare to celebrate Easter and His resurrection.
