New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson no longer cares about the things of this world because none of them could ever satisfy his soul like Jesus can.

“…I’m just constantly in prayer and just asking the Lord, like, ‘Lord, guard my heart from the love of money, guard my heart from the idolization of football,'” the athlete said on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast of how he stays locked in on his faith.

“Because I [was] once…there,” he admitted. “I was once at a point before I met Christ, idolizing football, idolizing money, getting my identity wrapped up in these things, but, like, the Lord has said, like, when we come to him, the old has passed away and the new has come to life. I’ve been made new, and so I no longer have the desire to serve…the idol of football or serve the idol of money. I just want to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Henderson pointed to King Solomon who had everything man could desire but still felt unsatisfied.

“I know at the end of the day, like King Solomon realized — someone who had much more than all of us, he had all the women, he had all the fame, the power, and all of that during that time — but he said, ‘Vanity. At the end of the day, it’s all worthless,’ and that’s what I realized in my own life, man,” the running back continued. “I was accomplishing everything at one point. I had the money, I had the woman, but at the end of the day, deep in my heart, I was empty, lost, broken inside, and when I came to Christ, man, I found healing. I found true love. I found true purpose. I found true identity, and I realized who I truly am, and I’m who God always intended for me to be. And it was His son.”

Throughout his entire rookie season last year, Henderson made the name of Christ known.

Following the matchup against the New York Jets where he scored three touchdowns, he told the media, “I can’t do it without Jesus.”

“I’ve just been staying patient, trusting in the Lord’s plan,” Henderson added. “Just continuing to do my part, and the rest I just leave up to him. I’m so weak without Him, and I really mean this from the heart: I can’t do it without Jesus.”

What a powerful reminder that only a personal relationship with Jesus can satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts.
