Former NFL wide receiver Geremy Davis turned to golf content creation after his time playing football, but he sees a worrying trend: creators love “human praise more than praise from God.”
“Trust me, I get it — metrics matter in content creation. They matter for the brand, for growth, and for measuring impact. I’m not neglecting that reality because measurements do matter,” Davis shared in a post on social media. “But at some point, we have to ask ourselves: are we creating content because we genuinely love the substance behind our brand, or have we become consumed with seeking the approval and glory of people?”
“As believers, whether your content is faith-based or simply wholesome and uplifting, we have to guard our hearts from valuing the approval of man more than the approval of the Lord,” he continued. “The audience fluctuates. The algorithm changes. And if you chase consistency from people, you’ll constantly feel empty trying to keep up.”

Davis knows that even believers feel the need to keep up with the things of this world, but we don’t have to because of our faith in God.
“But the Lord is consistent. Continue to pursue His approval and His glory above all else,” the former wide receiver encouraged.
Davis concluded his post with Galatians 1:10, which reads, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
He spoke about this same topic with Matt Forte on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast.
“How can I talk about the gospel, use the gospel in my platform, use the gospel in my vocation, because these days are evil, and sometimes we put that on the back burner, because we’re like, ‘Man, I have a short period in time NFL, let me just promote myself,’” Davis said. “I understand it, because branding is a lot, and a lot of times, branding can help carry success after football, but with the time that we do have, man, I just hope that going back to what we are talking about, the priority is the gospel, and then the branding.”
“I’m always trying to instill that into my little brother — he’s a Dog at the University of Tennessee — but he’s experiencing NIL. He’s experienced enough to get this money, the fashion stuff like that. I so desperately want him to know what the true priority is,” he continued. “Like, I know you can say, ‘All go to God,’ every time I win a game, or you’re about to go play, but like, is that truly instilled in your heart, bro?”
“Like, I truly want that for you, not for selfish reasons, but when we think about the fruits of the spirit, like the peace, the self-control and the love that comes with that, like I want that indwelled in you, and I’m looking at it from a spiritual standpoint,” he explained.
Whether or not you’re a content creator, Davis has an important message: we should prioritize seeking God’s glory over the fleeting validation of people.
