Netflix’s LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRE reboot has cast Willa Dunn as Nellie Olesen.
Dunn, who’s acted in ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING, COUP!, KEY WITNESS, POKER FACE, INSIDE AMY SCHUMER and THE RUNAROUNDS, will star across from Alice Halsey, Deadline reported.
The description of her character reads, “On the surface, Nellie (Dunn) is a world-class spoiled princess and a playground bully. Smart and supremely confident, sharp-tongued but easily wounded. Lives and breathes to make Laura Ingalls (Halsey) miserable. But beneath her mean-girl persona is tenderness and a yearning for true friendship — even if she doesn’t know exactly how to get it.”

Nellie Oleson is a character in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie books, Wilder Companion reported. However, she is a composite of three mean girls Wilder knew — Nellie Owens, Genevieve Masters and Stella Gilbert.
The Netflix series debuts on July 9, and is already renewed for Season 2. The series is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content and is executive produced by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who serves as showrunner; Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition; Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions and Dana Fox.
The teaser for the series came out in April. In it, Halsey, as Laura, narrates: “Once upon a time, Ma and Pa and Mary and Laura left the Big Woods of Wisconsin and moved to the prairie, where a new life was waiting for them. Every day and every night was an adventure. And even though they were all alone, and very small against the sky and the stars, they were happy. Because they were a family, and they were together.”
The official logline reads, “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
Sonnenshine says that she’s thrilled Netflix has already given the green light for season 2.
“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” she told Netflix. “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world.”
