Prime Video announced today that its biblical drama HOUSE OF DAVID will return for a third season, following two seasons that together drew more than 40 million viewers worldwide.

“We are incredibly grateful to fans around the world who have embraced HOUSE OF DAVID,” said Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, the show’s creators and executive producers, in a statement. “Season Three follows David through one of the most defining chapters of his life, and we’re honored to share this next chapter alongside our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.”

Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios made the announcement July 10 out of Culver City, California. The two companies co-produce HOUSE OF DAVID, the epic retelling of King David’s rise drawn from the biblical book of 1 Samuel.

Season 3 picks up David’s story after Goliath and before the crown, following him as a hunted outlaw hiding among his enemies. The new season, per the announcement, will dig into “the true cost of destiny — the betrayals endured, the identities shed, and the sacrifices demanded of a hero before he can rise to the throne.”

Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, CEO of Wonder Project, framed the renewal as part of a bigger plan for the faith-focused streaming platform.

“At Wonder Project, we’re committed to building enduring franchises rooted in timeless stories that inspire, entertain and bring audiences together,” Hoogstraten said. “We’re grateful to Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios for their continued partnership and shared belief in that vision, and we’re excited to continue the journey with a third season of HOUSE OF DAVID.”

Kara Smith, Head of Drama at Amazon MGM Studios, pointed to the audience response as proof the story still has legs.

“HOUSE OF DAVID has resonated with audiences around the world, bringing this timeless story to life with breathtaking scope and emotional authenticity,” Smith said. “We are thrilled to continue this journey with our partners at Wonder Project for a third season.”

Michael Iskander returns as David, joined by Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam and Stephen Lang as Samuel, alongside a returning ensemble that includes Indy Lewis, Ethan Kai and Oded Fehr.

Movieguide® gave HOUSE OF DAVID’s first season four stars back in April 2025, when the series became the No. 1 show on Prime Video, calling it a “marvelous, engrossing, exciting depiction of David’s transition from shepherd boy to anointed ruler.” The show takes some liberties with the biblical record, but Movieguide®’s reviewers have consistently found that it “reflects the heart of Scripture,” while cautioning parents that individual episodes carry battle violence.

Movieguide® has also tracked Iskander’s own faith journey as the show has grown into a global hit.

“My faith always comes first. That’s No. 1,” Iskander told Movieguide®. “I don’t see why there should be a separation between art and faith. I’m very lucky with David. I get to worship when I go to work — that’s a blessing.”

That kind of candor is part of why HOUSE OF DAVID has struck a chord well beyond church pews. Iskander has said fans “from all walks of life — not just Christians” stop him to talk about the show, and Season Three now gives them a longer runway to keep watching David wrestle with exile, betrayal and the cost of the crown God promised him.

Seasons 1 and 2 remain available with a Prime membership or a Wonder Project subscription on Prime Video, so there’s plenty of time to catch up before Season 3 arrives.
