THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023)

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE (2023) is based on the iconic Nintendo video game of the same name and follows brothers Mario and Luigi, two plumbers from Brooklyn, New York. After a green pipe in the sewers transports them into a different universe, the brothers find themselves wrapped up in an evil plot by King Bowser. Bowser plans to kidnap and marry Princess Peach, take over the Mushroom Kingdom, and rule the universe. The movie has a strong moral message about brotherhood, sacrifice, and working together to defeat evil. Due to some intense animated action/violence, Movieguide® advises caution for younger children.

PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
In the animated movie PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH, Puss in Boots realizes he’s on his last life, so he needs to find the Last Wish star and ask for more lives. Funny and exciting, PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH is well made and has a strong Christian, moral worldview that includes Christian references and promotes being less selfish and reckless, thinking of others before yourself, and loving your family, but there are some scary characters and moments.

TROLLS

Quality:
****
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
TROLLS is a delightful animated comedy about the famous Troll dolls, in a story about Princess Poppy trying to save her friends from the troll eating Bergens, with assistance from an unhappy, fearful troll named Branch. With only one adult innuendo as a joke and 3 OMG's, TROLLS is an adorable, fun, funny animated movie the family can enjoy.

TURBO

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
TURBO is a super-charged animated comedy about a little garden snail with big dreams, who gets endowed with special powers that enable him to qualify for the Indy 500. TURBO has loads of hi-octane fun for all ages, with a positive redemptive message about being your brother’s keeper.

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
In SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, Miles Morales runs into a society of Spider-Men or Spider-People protecting the multiverse from threats, but when they clash on how to handle a new supervillain, Miles faces a moral dilemma that affects the people he loves the most. SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is a creative, exciting, funny superhero movie with a strong, heartfelt pro-family worldview that also promotes doing the right thing, but there’s lots of animated action violence and some brief foul language, so caution is advised for older children.

THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
In THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, an animated science fiction comedy on Netflix, all Katie wants to do is get to film college, but her father decides the family should drive Katie to college and, along the way, the family finds themselves in the middle of a robot apocalypse. THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES is odd and quirky in a fun way, with great animation and strong morally uplifting, pro-family themes, but the story is a bit too longwinded.

VIVO

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
VIVO is an animated musical on Netflix that follows a small ring-tailed mammal named Vivo who performs alongside his best friend, an elderly musician named Andrés, but Vivo is forced to embark on a journey from Havana, Cuba to Miami, Florida to fulfill his friend’s final wish. VIVO is an endlessly colorful, delightful comic adventure, full of heartfelt moments and joyful, Cuban-style music, but some sequences of peril could frighten younger children.
