49ers QB Brock Purdy’s Purpose: Be ‘Who God Has Called Me to Be’

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy returned to the field after elbow surgery to compete against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a week one game.
Before his return, Purdy spoke to SportsSpectrum to discuss his mindset throughout his recovery.
“I think the first thing really is just, obviously, being thankful for just the little things, the moments and being present with where God has me,” Purdy told Sports Spectrum. “Not trying to get caught up in timelines of what my future looks like and ‘Oh, I did this last year, so I deserve this.’”
“For me it’s, ‘No, God has me where He needs me,’ and, ‘How can I look around and be thankful for where He has me and just have that steadfastness and peace and love, obviously that He provides, and stay in that?’” he added.
During the game, Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes and threw for 220 yards with two touchdowns, leading the 49ers to a 30-7 victory.
In a post-game press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan said of the quarterback, “[Purdy] is pretty steady. You don’t see much different each day. He’s a very faith-based person. I think that gives him his foundation as much as anyone I’ve been around. He’s taken this whole offseason as good as you can…He handles the pressure well and really doesn’t change. I think that’s why the guys love him, and I think that’s why he’ll continue to get better.”
“This is who God has called me to be,” Pudry said. “And I’ve believed that from day one. I believe that Jesus Christ did come down and died for my sins and rose again, and He is living and sitting beside God (the Father) on the throne. And so I believe that. It’s not just some story fairytale thing. It’s real. And it allows me to stay level-headed and real with life.
“And I know what my purpose is,” he added.
Purdy was among a handful of players who joined the postgame prayer at the 50-yard line.

In February, Purdy shared a series of photos on Instagram and said, “Can’t put a price tag on moments like these. God is so faithful. To my Niners Family and Friends: Thank you for the love and support this year.”
According to Sports Spectrum, “Purdy and the 49ers, who are among the top Super Bowl contenders, take the field again Sunday in Los Angeles against the Rams (1-0). The game is set for 4:05 p.m. ET. San Francisco’s home opener comes Thursday, Sept. 21, against the New York Giants.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Purdy:
While some celebrities keep their faith private, breakout NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Brock Purdy, brings his faith into the spotlight.
“I’m called to witness. I’m called to share the word,” Purdy explained. “I have this knowledge of the spirit and I want to give it to as many people as I can.”
While this interview dates back to his college career, Purdy continues to live out this mission as he helps the 49ers continue their 12-game winning streak.
Many people would soak in the praise after defeating the Tom Brady led Buccaneers in a pivotal playoff game, but Purdy was quick to deflect.
“I have so much help around me with all the veterans and leadership on this team,” Purdy said in a postgame interview.
