Great American Family actress Danica McKellar detailed how friend Candace Cameron Bure sparked her faith.
“So Candace Cameron Bure who is also on Great American Family, she has been a friend for a long time…she has posted many times about her faith, and I’m an interested observer, but I, you know, I didn’t have that for myself,” McKellar explained.
McKellar shared how as a child, she went to a Catholic school for a bit, not because of faith but “because it was the best school in the area.”
The actress explained that atrocities committed in the name of Christianity alienated her from the idea of the faith.
“I’d always been so biased against Christianity for various reasons, mostly because of the bad reputation it’s gotten with causing wars, and you think, ‘Oh, Christians are these really judgmental people,’ and all this religious stuff. The truth is, Jesus was anti-religion. He was anti-religion, and I didn’t even realize that,” she told Fox News last year.
But when McKellar’s dad became Christian several years later, she noticed a huge change in him, and it interested her. “Later I’m in my 20s. My dad became born again. He just had some hard financial times, and he had a friend who brought him to church, and he was born again. I remember how happy he seemed, and he just like glowing,” she recalled.

“I texted her about like, ‘What is the deal with forgiveness? So you can just do whatever you want and then you’re forgiven for it automatically because of Jesus, but like you can do whatever? She wrote me an answer that I didn’t understand at the time, but she said, ‘I’d love to send you a Bible,’” she recalled.
“We were trying to get to church together she invited me to church…finally went on Palm Sunday. It was a Passion Play at her church in Los Angeles, and that’s when it happened,” McKellar explained.
“The Holy Spirit bowled me over, like, I was overtaken by the Holy Spirit. I was so amazed and so emotional, I was just bawling. I’m watching the story play out. And all of the times in my life that I felt connected to something bigger than me, all of the times that I’ve wanted to do the right thing just because it’s the right thing…all my questions were answered with, like, no words. It was just like, ‘This is what I’ve been looking for my entire life.’”
Today, McKellar is outspoken about her faith just like Bure. The two remain friends and continue to make positive and uplifting movies on Great American Family.
“Candace has been wonderful. After we watched the play, I was like, ‘This is what I’ve been looking for my whole life and didn’t realize it’…And it’s been wonderful. It’s been a wonderful gift,” McKellar said, per Church Leaders.
