Actress China Anne McClain on the Heart Behind Her New Movie

BREWSTER’S MILLIONS: CHRISTMAS is a “family affair.”

A spinoff of Richard Pryor’s 1985 movie BREWSTER’S MILLIONS, which followed a minor league baseball player who “must spend $30 million in 30 days in order to inherit $300 million,” BREWSTER’S MILLIONS: CHRISTMAS keeps family and the futility of money as its themes.

“…the core message [of BREWSTER’S MILLIONS] was to figure out how to not lose yourself in a fortune like that and to see him navigate through the whole thing and arrive at the place that he did at the end,” said CHRISTMAS star China Anne McClain. “It’s what made me want to do this film because this film is a bit of a spin on the original. It’s not about getting a bunch of money and trying to figure out how to manage it. It’s about losing everything and then trying to find yourself and with no distractions.”

“When Morgan Brewster, a wealthy heiress who has lost her way, faces a Christmas challenge to inherit her uncle Monty Brewster’s grandfather’s fortune, she must learn the true meaning of love, faith, and family by giving instead of receiving, all while navigating the charming chaos, and the true meaning of the holiday season,” a synopsis reads.

McClain, who plays Morgan, couldn’t turn down the opportunity to star in the movie, telling Movieguide® “I’m really happy we got to do the remake, especially with [Pryor’s] children. That was another selling point for me.”

“It’s a twist on it, but it’s still revolving around like money and how we should look at it because a lot of people throw money at their issues and they don’t actually end up dealing with them, and that’s my character in the beginning,” the actress added.
