Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson revealed that in moments of anxiety or stress, he leans on Micah 5:5 for comfort.
Micah 5:5 reads, “And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. We will raise against them seven shepherds, even eight commanders.”
“I say my favorite verse is Micah 5:5, just because of all the anxiety and everything that you know you kind of go through on a day-to-day basis, at a high intensity thing like, like we have here,” the quarterback told CBN Sports. “Just because of all the competitiveness, the distractions, the stress, right? Every morning I get up, you know, I read my devotional, then I pray before I go into the building, and then I pray before I go to sleep at night. Just because he can instantly take this away, but he’s given me this platform to, you know, glorify Him.
“When you care about something so much, and you’re very passionate about it, like when you talk about something and, you know, you have that kind of good feeling that it just kind of gets the anxiety and the relief off of you,” he continued. “So whenever I get into a big-time situation, right, whether it’s, you know, playing in Athens or fourth down against Missouri, I’m kind of anxiety-free knowing that I could just say a little prayer, and that he’s with me no matter what.”
In September, the Crimson Tide beat Wisconsin. Simpson completed 24 of 29 passes for 382 yards total.
After the game, Simpson told the media how he was able to play so confidently each week.
“First off, I get my confidence from the Lord,” he shared. “I pray before every game. I pray every morning before I go into the building — to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity to play at the University of Alabama, but also to give me wisdom and strength and just make sure I do everything the way He wants me to do it.”
“I get my confidence from the Lord.”

When speaking with AL.com, Simpson made sure to emphasize that he is a “Christian first.”
Football means a lot to me, don’t get me wrong,” he explained. “I’m going to make sure I do everything because He’s given me this platform and He’s given me this opportunity. But no matter how many touchdowns I throw, no matter how many wins I have at the University of Alabama, I’m a Christian first.”
No matter what is thrown at Simpson, he knows he can handle it. He relies on Micah 5:5 for peace and comfort, but most importantly, Simpson’s identity is found in Christ alone and not in football.
