Alexa PenaVega Made Her Latest Christmas Flick ‘For the Whole Family’

Alexa PenaVega says she and husband Carlos PenaVega “put so much heart” into their latest project, GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS
“This is truly our baby,” she told Movieguide®. “Our production company did this movie, we helped build it from the ground up, and when we brought it to Great American Family, they really allowed us to get in the driver’s seat for this movie.”
In GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS, “up-and-coming singer songwriter Bella Harlan (Alexa PenaVega) comes home for Christmas and enlists her high-school songwriting partner Jack Grayton (Carlos PenaVega) to craft a song to win back her rockstar boyfriend by Christmas,” GAF’s website reads. “As the two reunite for the first time in a decade, they embark on a Christmas journey down memory lane, and soon realize true love may be closer than they thought.”

“We wanted to build something that was a little bit more elevated than the typical Christmas movie,” Alexa said of the project. “That doesn’t mean we’ve changed the formula or anything like that. There’s still a love story, it’s still Christmas time; all of that’s still there. But we really wanted it to feel like the old-school Christmas movies that you grew up watching. Just joyful, all the way through.”
She added, “We put so much heart into this movie…We really just wanted to create this space where people just feel like they could be out of their busyness of life for a moment and just sort of fall into this kind of feelgood land for a little bit.”
“This is, I feel like, just such a good quality movie for the whole family,” Alexa concluded. “That’s our goal. I want good family content to have quality. It really matters.”
She reiterated this in an interview with Parade, saying, “We’ve always wanted to be filmmakers. I think it feels impossible sometimes. As we got older, as we started having kids and diving deeper into our faith, we kind of found that a lot of the projects that we wanted to take which were more family-friendly were either very cheesy and we were not passionate about those projects, or they were a little bit too risqué [where] I would be a little sad if my kids ever watched their mom in that movie. So, we were looking for a balance.”
Alexa shared her hopes that GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS uplifts viewers, adding, “More than anything, we wanted people to feel.”
