Christian artist Ben Fuller lived a life of sin before a simple invitation to supper “changed” his life.
“I moved out of Nashville on my own power, my own strength, my own stuff. I was starving. I was out of gas. I was living in an apartment that I didn’t want to live in, and…my world was falling apart. I was drinking too much,” Fuller told Movieguide®’s Kaelii Williams. “And then all of a sudden, I get invited to church in Franklin, Tennessee, in the fall of 2019 by a family from Vermont that God moved before I even got there — a family of seven, this beautiful family, the Davenport family — and they said, ‘Ben Fuller, will you come have dinner with us?’ It was a supper that saved my life, I call it.”
“And at the end of the supper, they asked me if I’ll go to church with them,” he continued. “And the following morning — it was a Sunday morning — we went to the Church of the City in Franklin, and I walked in, and I heard the music, and I heard the name of Jesus as a savior, not as a swearer. And as a man that lived 14 years in secret addiction, it was like, there’s freedom here, like I can call on His name and ask Him into my heart, and there’s freedom. And so I did that.”
“And like, over the course of two months, 20 beers a night turned into no beers a night. And then my language and sleeping around and all the stuff I was convicted of, all these things, He [God] was like, cut all this out and just make me the priority. And so I was like, ‘Okay, Jesus, I’m just gonna serve you and work for you and love you and honor you with everything,'” Fuller recalled.
Today, he creates music that speaks honestly about the gospel and the freedom found in Christ.
His second album, Walk Through Fire, debuted early last month, and he hopes it help people discover purpose in pain.
“I’ve been through a lot in my life,” Ben Fuller told Reel Faith. “So many of us have been through some really, really hard stuff that’s almost near impossible to get through. To realize that He was with us in the fire, that He was walking beside us through all of it, is incredible.”
One track, “If It Was Up To Me,” features Grammy award-winning artist Carrie Underwood.
“If it was up to me, I’d miss blessing after blessing, I’d never know how good God is, and I’d never experience true freedom,” Fuller wrote on social media. “I’m so grateful @carrieunderwood would lend her voice to this song. Jesus has changed my life and He can change yours too.”
