This Actress Is ‘Happier’ Since Leaving Hollywood

THE WAY HOME star Andie MacDowell is enjoying her life in South Carolina after leaving LA.

“I’m happier now than I have been in a long time,” MacDowell said on THE DREW BARRYMORE SHOW Friday.

“I moved to South Carolina, and I really, I’m taking good care of myself. It took me forever,” the 66-year-old mother of three said. “Once my kids left, I felt this huge void in my life, because they were so important to me.”

She credited her 30-year-old daughter, Margaret, for helping her find more happiness.

“Margaret really was kinda telling me I was supposed to be having the time of my life, but I wasn’t,” the actress said. “But now I am. I’m having the time of my life now. It’s really good.”

Barrymore, a mother of two, asked MacDowell if she would “help walk me through that in a few years.”

“I’ll tell you what not to do,” MacDowell said. “Come to me, because I have all the information on how not to waste your time. How to get on with it and have a good time. I’ll tell you.”

MacDowell mentioned last summer that she was considering attending church in her South Carolina community.

“I have just moved to South Carolina, and there’s an Episcopal church that’s not that far away that I think I might start going to, but right now I’m not,” she said. “I must be a failing Christian. I’m going to the nature church. But I will. I will.”

MacDowell sold her $4 million home before she moved to SC. The actress grew up in Gaffney, SC.

She previously wrote in a Guideposts story, “What I learned in Gaffney is that people always make time for each other. You don’t just wave and walk on by. You stop and chat…and chat…and chat some more.”

“If someone gets sick, neighbors rally round them. If a historic oak tree, rumored to have been there since before the Revolutionary War, is threatened by highway development, everybody signs petitions and writes letters to the town paper until that road gets rerouted,” she explained.

In 2023, MacDowell deleted Instagram in another move toward happiness. She announced she was “tired of the world” and deleted all of her posts.

In 2019, she left Twitter.

“I have failed at twitter,” she said. “I like it to catch up on information or read articles. My sharing has mostly cause me pain.”

“I read mean things from people I don’t know. It opens me up to sarcasm & too many mean people,” the READY OR NOT actress said. “I am a different generation. I don’t understand that kind of joy.”

MacDowell’s latest project is Hallmark’s THE WAY HOME series, which airs each Friday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
