For THE MIDDLE star Atticus Shaffer, leaning on the Lord helps him deal with his osteogenesis imperfecta and his ever-changing career.

“I really committed to Christianity when I was 15,” Shaffer said in 2018. “I just knew I had that draw to say, ‘I need to know the Lord. I need to know where I stand.'”

He was born with the painful genetic disorder, CBN News said. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, Osteogenesis imperfecta is an “inherited (genetic) bone disorder that is present at birth, and is also known as Bittle Bone Disease.”

ABC’s THE MIDDLE ran for nine years, from 2009-2018, and Shaffer basically grew up on the show. He said his faith in Christ really helped him to “be more empathetic and be more compassionate.”

“You get placed in situations where you have to depend on God,” he explained.

“I’ve never been one to Bible thump…but I do know there is a difference between right and wrong,” Shaffer added. “After I became a Christian and started standing up for my beliefs. a lot of the other crew who weren’t open about their faith started to speak up and talk about it too. So we all came together and supported each other. In secular TV, it is risky. I’ve worked with people who, as soon as they find out I’m a Christian, they treat me different. But we became a community and prayed for each other, vented to each other and were there for each other whatever it may be.”

Though he’s not on TV anymore, he plays Morrie Rydell on beloved audio series “Adventures in Odyssey.”

“Last week I had the pleasure of recording some new episodes with my friends at Adventures in Odyssey,” Shaffer told his fans on Instagram last week. “It was SUCH an amazing experience creatively, as always, and fans of the show are in for some seriously awesome stories. Love every chance I get working with Focus on the Family.”

Shaffer also makes special video messages for fans.

“To this day, this is one of my favorite reaction videos I’ve ever received while on Cameo,” he shared last year alongside a fan reacting to his sweet message. “I think we all need to understand and appreciate that something as simple as personal acknowledgement can be such an immense blessing to people. Last month I had the pleasure of being able to participate, through the Cameo app, in giving well wishes for many families’ celebrations, including graduations, Mother’s Day, birthdays, and even weddings.”

Shaffer’s relationship with Christ has made all the difference in his life.
