Baby Yoda Toy Sales Skyrocket as People Binge Disney+

Though many Americans may be stuck indoors, they’re still shopping. For toymaker Hasbro, the skyrocketing sales are largely due to one popular demand: Baby Yoda. Baby Yoda, officially called “the child,” is the runaway hit of Disney+’s THE MANDALORIAN.
Though the show had initial success, shelter-in-place and safer-at-home orders have given the series an extra boost. As the demand for entertainment during social distancing has been high, Disney launched the streaming service in Europe on Tuesday. While the popularity of Disney+ has increased over the last couple days, so has the popularity of Disney Hasbro toys.
When asked about the sales of Baby Yoda, the CEO of Hasbro Brian Goldner reported to Yahoo Finance: “That’s always been a question: Could streamed content drive merchandising? And clearly Baby Yoda has done that. We saw that in the fourth quarter with some of our product directly related to THE MANDALORIAN. Our pre-sales around Baby Yoda have been incredibly robust and we’re very excited to ship Baby Yoda late spring.”
As the Baby Yoda toys have gained more popularity, there has also been an increase in sales of toys from the FROZEN, princess movies, and Marvel movies. This is mainly due to the fact that Disney+ released FROZEN II earlier than expected due to the demand for movies during the pandemic.
In addition to the massive toy sales, Hasbro reported that their biggest sales are coming from board games such as Operation, Monopoly, and Play-doh products. As many kids are home from school the sales of games have increased.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread around the world, it is uplifting to hear how toys and games can give many kids joy during this difficult time. [socialpoll id=”2615488″]
