FAST & FURIOUS star Vin Diesel says Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, will make his last appearance in the franchise’s finale.

On Saturday at FuelFest, Diesel also revealed that the movie, FAST X 2, will release in April 2027. The film will be set in LA, he confirmed.

FAST X 2 is sure to ride off of the last movie’s success. FAST X made over $700 million at the global box office, Deadline reported.

At FuelFest, Diesel said, “The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of FAST AND FURIOUS [in] April 2027?’ I said, ‘Under three conditions. First, is to bring the franchise back to LA. The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing. The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.'”

Given the LA fires and loss of in-state production, Diesel felt it important to film the movie in Los Angeles.

“Los Angeles needs it now more than ever…Los Angeles is where FAST AND FURIOUS started filming 25 years ago…and now FAST will finally return home,” he said. “All love…”

There are no other large films set to release in April 2027, so it’s got a good spot. When FURIOUS 7 had a month to itself, it performed phenomenally at the box office and had the biggest opening of any FAST & FURIOUS film. It also made more than $1.5 billion globally.

Paul Walker played O’Conner in five of the movies. The actor died in 2013 in a car crash. At the time, he was still filming FAST 7. Walker’s brother, Cody, stepped in, and AI and CGI effects were used to make him look like Paul, Metro reported.

In FAST X, Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, made an appearance to honor her dad’s legacy.

Alan Richter told Screen Rant why the cast was having a hard time getting their schedules worked out.

“We talk about it quite often. That is one of the biggest challenges that the franchise faces is that you’ve got a lot of guys like Dwayne and Vin and Momoa and myself and everybody’s super busy,” he said. “So trying to get the stars to align so we can make that happen is a feat of nature.”

“So we’ll see how it goes, but this is a passion project for Universal and it’s one that I had a blast doing, so I’d love to get in there, and I’ll bring it to life again,” he said.

It’s likely that Cody will step in for his brother again in the last installment, but it’s not confirmed.
