Big Daddy Weave’s Jay Weaver Dies of COVID Complications

By Movieguide® Staff

Jay Weaver of contemporary Christian band Big Daddy Weave died on January 2, 2022, of COVID complications. Jay was 42.

“I’m so sorry to bring this news, but I’m also excited to celebrate where he is right now. My brother Jay went to be with Jesus just a couple hours ago and due to complications with COVID-19,” Jay’s brother and fellow band member Mike Weaver said in a video posted to the band’s Facebook page.

The band is known for songs including “My Story” and “Redeemed.”

The announcement came just one day after the band asked for prayer for Jay.

“Friends, would you please pray for Jay, his wife Emily and their children? Jay has been in the hospital for five days fighting a tough battle against Covid. Would you pray with us for complete healing for Jay and for peace for his family? We pray in the name of Jesus that it be so,” read the Facebook plea.

Jay’s wife Emily said he was hospitalized on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021.

The family is relying on their faith in the Lord to help them through this time.

“The Lord used him in such a mighty way out on the road for so many years and anybody who’s come in contact with him just knows how real his faith in Jesus was,” Mike said. “I believe that even though COVID may have taken his last breath, Jesus was right there to get him.”

Jay was previously hospitalized in August 2021 due to complications from dialysis.

“God has been so gracious and kind during these past few days. Yesterday when I left the hospital, we didn’t know when Jay would come home. The doctors and nurses were concerned about all things we asked for you to lift up in prayer. The Lord heard all request and surpassed them! We still have a journey. Jay did not have to have another finger amputated at this time. We have follow ups with doctors these next two weeks. There maybe changes in medical treatments. We are trusting completely in His plan. Thank you, thank you, thank you again for your prayers and sweet words,” Emily said in August.

Jay is survived by his wife Emily, and their children, Makenzie, Madison and Nathan Weaver.
