A new face just joined the regular cast for the upcoming BLUE BLOODS spinoff BOSTON BLUE. Actor Ernie Hudson will play the role of Reverend Peters.
“Hudson will play the Silver family patriarch, Reverend Peters, a renowned pastor of an historic Baptist church in Boston,” a description of his character reads. “An open-minded, welcoming man that is comfortable in all traditions, he is happy to preside at his church’s traditional Sunday Baptist service.”
The character will be the grandfather of Danny Reagan’s partner Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green.
But this isn’t Hudson’s first time in the BLUE BLOODS universe. In 2018, the actor portrayed Principal Darryl Ward in an episode of the hit cop show.
Hudson is best known for his role in GHOSTBUSTERS where he played exterminator Winston Zeddemore in the original 1984 film and in many sequels since. He also has played supporting roles in THE FAMILY BUSINESS, CITY ON A HILL, L.A.’S FINEST, GRACE AND FRANKIE, QUANTUM LEAP, TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN and MACGYVER.
The actor also speaks about his faith in God.
In an interview posted to Instagram, Hudson explained how his mother taught him about God from a young age. He didn’t know his real father, but he knew that God is his father.
“She said, ‘You know, we may never know your earthly father.’ She said, ‘but that’s okay, because we know who your father is. God is your Father, and God is there, and He’s real, and He listens to you. He’s aware of you, and all this creation, this whole universe, it wouldn’t be the same without you,'” he recalled his mother telling him.
“That’s how important you are,” he remembered her saying. “I’m telling you, so you will always know it, so you don’t ever have to feel less than anybody.”

BOSTON BLUE is set to premiere this fall.
Star Donnie Wahlberg posted a clip for the upcoming series to his Instagram account, writing, “So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall! 💙❤️”
Fans in the comment were supportive and excited for the new spinoff.
“YAY!!!!!! This makes me so happy!!! We were just saying how much we miss BLUE BLOODS!!!! 🥳🥳🥳” one fan said. Another person added, “Name a better duo…Danny Reagan & Boston…wait there is no better! 💙💛 Congratulations!”
It seems BLUE BLOODS fans have a lot to look forward to with great new and returning actors for another special procedural drama.
