BLUE BLOODS’ Tom Selleck Promises to ‘Share the Ride’ in New Memoir

By Movieguide® Contributor

BLUE BLOODS star Tom Selleck is opening up about his life through his upcoming memoir “You Never Know,” which is set to release next May.

“From the USC basketball court, to a happy accident, to discovering and then embracing the work I love. It’s been a long bumpy road with some singles, some home runs, and a whole lot of strikeouts,” Selleck said. “I figure it’s time to share the ride.”

“In his own voice and uniquely unpretentious style, the famed actor brings readers on his uncharted but serendipitous journey to the top in Hollywood, his temptations and distractions, his misfires and mistakes and, over time, his well-earned success,” reads a description of the memoir. “Along the way, he clears up an armload of misconceptions and shares dozens of never-told stories from all corners of his personal and professional life.”

While following Selleck’s long journey to stardom, the memoir also highlights his friendships with A-list actors from a previous era – like Frank Sinatra and James Garner – who taught Selleck important lessons about life, acting and celebrity status.

Selleck also gives readers a deep dive into his most famous characters, such as MAGNUM P.I.’s imperfect Thomas Magnum and BLUE BLOOD’s wise Frank Reagan.

The beloved actor does not shy away from talking about his personal life either, as he is candid about the difficulties of balancing an acting career and spending time with family. Throughout the book, he reveals the times he had to shift his acting career to protect the privacy and normalcy of his family.

“You Never Know,” which promises to be full of “charm, talent and humor,” is now available for preorder from HarperCollins and will release May 7, 2024.

Movieguide® previously reported on Selleck:

Actor Tom Selleck has had lots of success over the years, from his star-making role in MAGNUM P.I. to his part in the mega-popular BLUE BLOODS. The actor has put in a lot of hard work, but Selleck credits God for his success.

Selleck didn’t plan on being an actor. Instead, the college business major wanted to work for United Airlines. He eventually found his way to acting and was offered a contract with Twentieth Century Fox.

However, God called him to join the US Army and Selleck entered the California National Guard. He served from 1967 to 1973.

“I am a veteran, I’m proud of it,” Selleck shared. “I was a sergeant in the US Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”

After leaving the military, Selleck relaunched his acting career and soon scored the starring role on MAGNUM P.I. While his talent helped him earn the part, Selleck credits God for guiding him.
