Brandon Lake Says Security Guards Accepted Christ at Concert: Why We Do This’

By Movieguide® Contributor

In an interview with Christian Headlines, singer Brandon Lake shared how his security guards had “an encounter with God” at one of his and Phil Wickham’s concerts, exemplifying the mission behind their music.

“Brandon Lake vividly remembers the night a group of arena security guards accepted Christ during his Summer Worship Nights Tour with Phil Wickham,” Christian Headlines reported on March 22.

“It was 2023, the first year of the tour, and the two singers were on stage in the final moments of a concert, having asked members of the audience to raise their hands if they wanted to ‘start a relationship with Jesus or to rededicate their lives,’” Lake told Christian Headlines. “Suddenly, Lake noticed a commotion in the audience to his left.”

The singers had just been given an invitation call to follow Jesus.

“A line of security guards all raised their hands,” Lake said.

“Many believers there that night ran forward and celebrated with the security guards,” he said. “It was just really cool. Because that’s why we do this. It’s not to entertain. It’s to see people have an encounter with God.”

Wickham and Lake will reunite for the 2024 Summer Worship Nights tour. Christian rapper Hulvey will also tour with them.

Transparent Productions recently shared a video of Lake and Wickham jamming to a song as they drove around in Lake’s car.

“Who’s taking a road trip to SUMMER WORSHIP NIGHTS this summer?!?!” Lake shared with a list of August tour dates.

Lake joined Wickham at Wickham’s concert on Sunday night—a nice surprise for its attendees.

“NORTH CHARLESTON, SC!!! What a night!!! 🙌🏼 That was a such a great way to end weekend on the I Belive Tour!!! We even had a surprise visit from my friend @brandonlake!!! 🙌🏼 We loved worshiping with you South Carolina and can’t wait to come back some day!!!” Wickham shared.

Wickham also told Christian Headlines about one of his favorite memories from last year’s tour.

A woman brought her husband, who didn’t believe in Christianity, to one of their concerts.

“[She] said, ‘Hey, I’ve been praying for my husband since we got married 20-something years ago, that he would come to Jesus. And that night – thank you for giving that moment [of invitation] – because that night he raised his hand. And everything’s different now,’” Wickham told Christian Headlines.

“On another night, the head of security for the Summer Worship Nights Tour was saved,” Christian Headlines reported. “Wickham described the individual as a tough ‘military man’ who traveled with the artists but himself was not a Christian.”

A couple of weeks into the tour, the security head approached the singers.

“He just said, ‘Hey, there’s something different going on here. And I didn’t know what to do in the moment. But when you guys were saying if you want to follow Jesus, I wanted to say I want to follow Jesus,” Wickham said.

“Now he’s following Jesus,” Wickham said. “That’s a sign to me of like, ‘Thanks, God, you’re in this.”

All of these experiences with concert attendees and security confirm that God is working through the singers.

“God’s transforming families,” Lake said about the story, which still makes him cry. “God’s moving.”

Christian Headlines said the man told Lake, “I can’t wait to get home and tell my son that I’m a Christian now.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Lake’s song, “Gratitude:”

“‘Gratitude’ just went to the top of the charts,” Lake told Faithwire. “And God has just been breathing on it ever since, and I get to tour this song and sing it with thousands of people and it’s just really cool that ‘The Chosen’ had such a huge part to play in really just one of the main worship songs that the nation is singing now.”

Lake explained that he initially didn’t see “Gratitude” as “a really special song or a big song.”

“But sometimes God brings other people into your life that see things that you don’t yourself, and that is the story of this song,” the singer-songwriter said, per Christian Headlines. “Dallas saw something in this song.”
