Brittany Lutz Explains Why Christians Need a Vision for Life

By Movieguide® Contributor

Brittany Lutz, wife of TWILIGHT actor Kellan Lutz, reminded her followers why having a vision for their lives is key when following Christ.

She shared a devotional based on John 7:38, which says, “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

“The devotional says, ‘When you think about a river, you may think of a stream that leads into a larger body of water like a pond, lake or ocean. All water is not created equal, in fact stagnant water is toxic,’” she began.

“Water needs to flow,” she continued reading. “Jesus uses a river to explain one of the greatest gifts of being a believer in and a carrier of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. He didn’t just say we’d be full of water. No, he specifically decreed that multiple streams of Living Water will flow from within us.”

“The one thing that just hit me like a ton of bricks was how stagnant water is toxic because then I started thinking of my own life and I’m like, wow the times in my life where I had the most toxicity running through my body, in the way of relationships jobs like whatever it was, my life was the most toxic when I was stagnant, when I wasn’t moving toward anything when I didn’t have any goals or vision or future,” she explained.

She continued, “It’s just such a cool thing to look back on sometimes and see, ‘Wow, you’ve brought me so far, Lord,” and it showed me the importance of having goals, of having vision.”

“It says, I believe in Proverbs, that without vision, people perish. Without vision, without something you’re aiming towards, you’re just going to die and maybe not in the physical sense but your soul and your spirit will die,” Lutz explained.

She urged her followers to get rid of the things keeping them stagnant. Although the process of change is hard, she explains that it’s even harder to stay in the same place.

Lutz frequently talks about faith and motherhood on social media.

She shared a few tips to connect with God even as a busy mom.

“I like to at least start the mornings with worship music throughout the house but especially in the rooms that we’re in,” she explained. “Praying *out loud* over my family, my marriage, myself, our world etc is such a game changer…Having my Bible and/or a devotional visible and accessible is so helpful.”

She’s also been open about her pregnancy struggles. Now a mom of two, she suffered a pregnancy loss in 2020. She reflected on how praising God amid trials helped her faith grow.

“In the darkest hours of trying for a family, I praised God for the children I knew He had for us to raise,” Lutz explained. “Sometimes we forget simple things like praising God for what He’s going to do before He’s done it. It is like medicine to our souls to praise Him in faith for what’s to come.

Brittany Lutz shared a new devotional message and encouraged viewers to lean on God’s understanding.

Lutz first cited Galatians 3:3: “Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?”

“Everyday we have decisions to make and responsibilities to attend to,” Lutz read from her devotional. “It’s easy for the lines of faith and flesh to subtly blur.”

She explained that, when completing a task, it’s easy to look at the ways God has equipped you and take it as your own skills, or “like it’s us doing the doing.”

“When we fall into the deception of self-reliance, however, we can become addicted to our own abilities,” Lutz said, adding that this self-reliance can cause stress and pride.

She continued: “If you’re struggling with stress or pride, then that means that you probably are not relying on God, because in His presence…there is no stress, there is no anxiety.”
