Candace Cameron Bure Shares Encouragement for the Depressed: ‘You Are Not Alone!’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Candace Cameron Bure Bure has a message of hope for her social media followers who battle with depression.

“If you struggle with sadness or depression, please know you are not alone! PSALM 34:17-18 says, “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit,” she captioned an Instagram clip of her latest podcast episode with author Jennie Allen.

In the clip, Bure says, “It is such a lonely place, and it’s very difficult to speak out about it. Even to your most trusted people. It’s hard to admit it.”

“For me, I feel like because I should be strong enough to overcome that, and then it just feels weak,” the FULL HOUSE actress told Allen. “It just feels so weak.”

For Bure, this feeling is worsened by others’ perceptions of her.

“I’ll also say like there are a lot of people who feel that it’s weak and will verbalize that,” she said. “So then it’s just this immediate shame that you’re like, ‘Oh, well If I struggle with this then I’m a weak person and yet there’s so many times I’m like I don’t want to feel this way. I can try with all of my might to get out of this and I can’t pull myself out of the pit…but it’s hard to extend the arm and [get help].”

US Weekly reported that exercise helps Bure with her mental health.

“I juggle, as we all do, a lot of plates,” the actress said. “I not only juggle my family but also work in a lot of different capacities. It can get really difficult, the travel can get strenuous as well. I need to keep my mental health clear. Just sweating that out and all those endorphins really help me a lot.”

During a hard time in her life last year, Bure shared some affirmations that she tells herself with her followers.

“Sometimes we can get overwhelmed with feelings, feelings that might be loneliness, shame, regret, worry, anxiety, depression, darkness,” the star said in an Instagram video. “You need to rebuke those spirits. You need to tell them to get out because they don’t have a hold on you.”

“They don’t have a hold on me because I belong to God the Father. So do you!” Bure continued. “He’s with you at all times. He goes before you. He stands with you. He goes behind you. He covers you in protection.”

“Tell any evil spirits to get out because they don’t get to have a hold on you,” she said. “Open up the windows. Let the light come in.”

“Put on your praise and worship music and fill your room with the Holy Spirit because God changes everything and He loves you. He’s with you,” she said.

She “needed” to say these things for herself and “knows” that some of her five million followers must have needed to hear them, too.

Movieguide® reported on an episode of Bure’s podcast about happiness:

“So, happiness, I would say, is an exterior feeling,” Bure explained on an episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast.” “It’s a feeling that we feel happy when things are created around us that give us happiness. But joy is a deep inner feeling that you have when you have peace and contentment and happiness, too, despite your circumstances. And joy comes from the Lord.”

The pair talked about the importance of finding the things that bring joy, whether it’s going to the beach or eating a favorite snack. By building joy through everyday activities, “you’re going to feel happy more,” Allen promised.
