Candace Cameron Bure Talks ‘Giving is Living’ with Author Mitch Albom

Bestselling author Mitch Albom joined Candace Cameron Bure to talk about how giving has impacted his life.

“What we carry is who we are,” Albom stated on Bure’s podcast. “And it’s just like giving is living, what you’re going to carry in this life. Those that you’re going to help are going to define who you are, and you’re either going to carry your own stuff, or you’re going to carry somebody else.”

Albom, the author of “Tuesdays With Morrie,” also talked about how his relationship with Morrie Schwartz, his former professor, taught him about giving back.

The pair reconnected when Albom learned that Schwartz had been diagnosed with ALS.

“Even though he was dying, he seemed so much more content with his life than I was,” the writer explained. “He never talked about the pain or the illness. He talked about all the amazing things he was learning in the last stages of his life.”

When Albom learned Schwartz’s family didn’t have enough money to cover his medical bills, he decided to write a book and donate the proceeds to them.

“That was probably the first act of giving that I had ever done in my life that was what you would call selfless,” he said.

“Tuesdays With Morrie” has gone on to sell “nearly 18 million copies globally and has been translated into 48 languages,” according to NPR, making it “one of the best-selling memoirs in the history of publishing.”

Albom has just released a new book called “The Little Liar.”

“I wanted to write a story that showed the lies that we tell in our lives and how we spend much of our lives trying to get forgiveness for the lies that we tell,” he said in an interview with Deseret News. “So I thought I had a book that would be meaningful to people no matter what.”
