Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce might be the new ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER? host.

Kelce “is in discussions to host a celebrity-focused reboot of the long-running game show ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER? that would stream via Amazon Prime Video, according to two people familiar with the matter,” Variety reported. “The deal, if signed, would represent the football great’s latest move toward general entertainment after appearances on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, the reality series CATCHING KELCE and a podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason.”

“Amazon Prime Video declined to make executives available for comment, and CAA, the agency that represents Kelce, could not be reached for immediate comment,” Variety wrote. “There are some questions, according to the people familiar with discussions, about how much of a commitment Kelce could make to the venture if he continues playing football.”

According to Variety’s sources, the new version of the show will feature celebrity guests instead of children.

Per USA TODAY, the show started in February 2007 with host Jeff Foxworthy. It had a total of four seasons and a brief stint in syndication. Then, it had one more season in 2019, with John Cena as the host.

Variety notes that it’s not uncommon for sports figures to jump into TV host roles. Peyton Manning hosted COLLEGE BOWL, and Michael Strahan hosted THE $100,000 PYRAMID.

US Weekly said, “In a January piece in The New York Times titled “The People Who Brought You Travis Kelce,” André and Aaron Eanes, who have known Kelce since college, revealed there was a plan in place to make him ‘as famous as The Rock.’”

The twin brothers said Kelce received offers to host game shows and act in movies.

Movieguide® reported how Kelce impacted the high Super Bowl viewership last month:

The Super Bowl capped off a strong year for NFL viewership with a variety of factors contributing to its 123.7 million average viewers, an all-time high for any broadcast in television history…

Last Sunday’s game put up similar numbers with help from a record spend on advertisements as well as a boost in interest coming from Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce, a major force on the Chiefs’ offense.

Similarly, Kelce’s relationship with Swift could also draw audiences to the show if he hosts it.
