Chris Pratt Honors Fallen Military Members: ‘May God Give Their Souls Rest’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Chris Pratt is one of many Americans who honor our country’s servicemen and women on Memorial Day.

In a 2021 post commemorating the holiday, Pratt shared a series of images of people grieving the loss of fallen military personnel.

“Please, look at each one. Pause, give them your consideration,” Pratt urged his followers. “America’s exceptional armed forces have altered the course of the world for the better. From the Union Army defeating slave owning confederates, to the Greatest Generation and her Allies vanquishing the Nazis or our special operators hunting down the perpetrators of 9/11.”

He continued, “We count the names of each fallen solider lest they be countless. They are the good guys. They run to the sound of gunfire. They know pain and suffering we never will. They have given us the most free and decent society planet earth has ever seen. We run the risk of losing that decency when we fail to instill gratitude in the minds of our youth or the perspective of what it actually means to be free- should they never learn of the selfless sacrifice of our armed service members in the face of oppressive evil.”

Pratt asked his followers to join him in “showing support for our fallen” and “to really consider the sacrifice” these men and women have made for our country.

“May God give their souls rest, and may they live in our memories this weekend and always,” he concluded.

Pratt frequently shows support for members of our country’s armed forces.

“My favorite part of this life that I’ve been blessed to be able to live and lead is to be able to openly show support for our men and women in uniform,” he told military families during a virtual screening of THE TOMORROW WAR. “You mean the world to me, I mean that. I understand that the life I live inside of a bubble of protection that you provide for me.”

He continued, “Just know, I do not take it for granted. I’m living my dream and I know you’re making that possible. Thank you.”

In a 2023 Veterans Day post, Pratt wrote, “Today, we salute the men and women in uniform who have volunteered to step into harm’s way to protect our way of life. Every nation on Earth has problems, including ours. However, the United States of America, the grand experiment built on the foundation of liberty, justice, and freedom, is as close to perfection today as any country has been in history.”

His post continued, “It’s each of our civic duty to drive this nation closer to perfection. In my opinion, that starts with showing gratitude to those who paved the way and to those who serve and finding a way to be of service ourselves. Thank a Veteran today. The freedoms we often take for granted, our shot at the American Dream—we owe it to the valorous acts of warriors in uniform. Don’t forget that.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Pratt’s support of the military:

Actor Chris Pratt recently honored World War II veterans at a Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming movie, THE TERMINAL LIST, where he stars as a U.S. Navy Seal.

“Well, this is a wonderful group of extraordinary men of the greatest generation,” Pratt told the Associated Press. “These are World War II veterans, and every year they take a pilgrimage back to Normandy.”

Pratt is candid about his connection to the U.S. military through the service of family members, like his brother Cully Pratt.

“It was an opportunity to just … catch up with them. I’ve been following their story,” Pratt said. “And when I saw them, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. We’ve got to spend time together’… I’d like to sit down and really talk to them and honor them for their great sacrifice.”

“This is a wonderful group of extraordinary men of the greatest generation,” Pratt added.

The JURASSIC WORLD actor also expressed his gratitude for all military personnel.

“[I have an] absolute affinity for our Navy SEAL community, for our men and women in uniform, and especially for our special operators and all they go through and all they sacrifice,” he told Reuters.
