Chris Pratt was GARFIELD MOVIE Director’s First Choice to Play Iconic Character

THE GARFIELD MOVIE’s director says Chris Pratt was his first choice to voice the iconic cartoon cat.
Mark Dindal, whose previous directorial work includes CHICKEN LITTLE and THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE, said he had been “imagining [Pratt’s] voice coming out of Garfield” for years.
“I was like, ‘Really?’” Pratt joked. “[But then] I thought there’s a version of myself, like around the Andy Dwyer stage of my life, that I felt was similar to Garfield, and so I thought, ‘Ok, I can do that.’”
THE GARFIELD MOVIE is already winning over audiences. A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

Pratt has also spoken about the family-friendly nature of the movie, saying, “It’s OK for kids, it’s safe for kids.”
“My son has seen it and he loved it but my daughters haven’t seen it yet,” the actor continued.
Pratt shares 11-year-old son Jack with ex-wife Anna Faris, and daughters Lyla, 3, and Eloise, 2, with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.
“I think they’ll probably watch it pretty soon,” he said of his daughters. “It might be like the first movie my youngest has ever seen.”
The family recently celebrated Eloise’s 2nd birthday.
“Our baby girl is 2!” Schwarzenegger posted on Instagram. “The smiliest, silliest, strongest willed, love girl ! I love you to the moon and back and more and more!”
Pratt reshared his wife’s post, adding, “Happy birthday baby girl, mommy and daddy love you more than words.”

“We are so excited to announce the birth of our second daughter, Eloise Christina Schwarzenegger Pratt. We feel beyond blessed and grateful. Love , Katherine and Chris,” the couple’s statement read.
The couple are also parents to daughter Lyla, who was born in 2020. Pratt also shares a son, Jack, with his first wife, actress Anna Faris.
